European Union: Instances of Cooperation and Discord

On March 2nd, 2012, York University’s European Union Center of Excellence will be holding its third annual Graduate Student Conference at its Glendon Campus in Toronto, Ontario. This year’s theme will be “European Union: Instances of Cooperation and Discord/ Union Européenne: entre coopération et désaccord”. The purpose is to showcase graduate student work and promote debate on topics relating to the European Union.

This bilingual conference is organized by York graduate students and faculty and aims to include contributions from graduate students in various disciplines such as law, political science, public & international affairs, gender studies, economics, public administration, geography, history and sociology, among others, and from universities across Canada and around the world.

Graduate students interested in participating are invited to submit paper abstract (300 words) in either French or English along with a current C.V.

Please note: Selected students will be asked to submit their full papers before February 17th, 2012.

Papers will be subjected to a standard review process.
Graduate students are encouraged to submit paper abstracts on topics that will stimulate debate including, but not limited to:

•    In-depth case studies relating to the EU
•    Strategies confronting shared issues within the EU
•    Comparative analysis at a country specific, regional or supranational level
•    The EU in the world or EU Foreign Policy
•    Papers that give insight into the idea of multi-level governance versus the idea of inter-governmentalism 

Presenters whose papers are chosen for presentation at the conference will receive up to $500.00 towards the cost of their economy class travel to and from the event as well as $100.00 to help defray the cost of accommodation while in Toronto.

Meals and coffee breaks will be provided at the conference; however, those taken outside of the event itself cannot be reimbursed.
