Postdoctoral scholarships

2014 Competition

Deadline for application : March 1st, 2014

In partnership with the Université de Montréal Centre for International Studies(CÉRIUM), EUCE awards postdoctoral scholarships values at $20 000 to recent PhD graduates interested in conducting research at the Université de Montréal during the year 2014-2015. The objective is to help young scholars establish research base as they begin their careers. Priority is given to candidates whose research focuses on the EUCE's main research axes:

  • The EU's external relations and the transatlantic relations
  • Economic and public policies
  • Elections, Vote, European Parliament
  • Social Europe, governance and democracy
  • Immigration, diversity and multiculturalism
  • Legal and institutional consolidation and unification

Successful candidates will be expected to present their work in seminars or conferences organized by the EUCE and the CERIUM; they will participate actively in seminars, colloquiums, roundtables, conferences and any other activities organized by the EUCE and the CERIUM.


a) Required documents

Applications should include the following documents:

  • a letter of intent (max. 2 pages)
  • a research project of approximately 1500 words
  • a curriculum vitae
  • one recent publication
  • two letters of recommendation of referees with a personnal knowledge of the candidate and of his/her skills to research
  • a letter of support of a EUCE-CÉRIUM researcher willing to supervise the research

Only candidates who have defended their PhD within the past five years can apply for a post-doctoral fellowship.

b) Applications

The complete application must be received by March 1st, 2014. Applications received after this date will be not be considered.

c) Allocation

A selection committee, composed of 3 members of CERIUM and EUCE, will review the applications. The decision of the committee will ba announced to candidates during April 2014. Successful candidates must accept or refuse the offer in writing within a two-week notice.

Successful candidates who have not completed all the requirements for the PhD at the time of applying will have to provide a copy of their diploma no later than August 1st, 2014. If the candidate does not provide this document, he/she will not be awarded the fellowship.


Decisions are based on academic merit and the its relevance to the mandates of the EUCE and CERIUM.


Postdoctoral fellowships must be held at the EUCE-CERIUM on the campus of the Université de Montréal (3744 Jean-Brillant Street).

Postdoctoral fellows have a working space as well as an access to the libraries and e-network of the Université de Montréal.

Successful candidates must actively participate in scientific activities organised by EUCE and CERIUM on the campuses of the Université de Montréal and McGill University.
